Dales morn

This landscape dressed
in sunrise robes
lifts the day’s canvas
and paints
me into its existence
a microbe visible only
by the long shadow

cast aside are
the doubtful clouds
tears already spent
wind whipped since
nightfall swallowed
the daylight whole.
Now the clipped
stone walls
charcoal drawn
in sharp focus
define

horizon lines
furrowed deep
in my mind
buried in memories
blanket
warm as if
covered by snow
fallen almost a
century ago
before I stepped
out the door.
